Downtown for Good

The First United Methodist Church of Madison, WI is “Downtown for Good” We chose that statement to affirm both the fact that we are, in fact, physically downtown and because we raise up John Wesley’s “Do Good” statement:

“Do all the good you can,
By all the means you can,
In all the ways you can,
In all the places you can,
At all the times you can,
To all the people you can,
As long as ever you can.”

Our church family seeks to ‘do good’ in our location with and for our neighbors as well as in the larger world through our programs and services.

Our mission statement states it a bit more formally:

“We seek to embody grace and hospitality in the manner of Jesus, nurturing our diverse spiritual journeys and joining together as a servant community to help realize a more loving and just world.”

Further, our expanded vision statement explains who we strive to be as we do God’s work in our world.

“In grateful response to the expansive love of God, we offer ourselves and our community of faith in answer to the call to walk humbly with our God.” (Micah 6:8) Connecting to and experiencing God will be central to all we do.”
